Coach Gernot Rohr Predicts Ademola Lookman Will Win CAF African Player of the Year
Benin Republic coach Gernot Rohr has expressed confidence that Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman will clinch the CAF African Player of the Year Award. Lookman was recently named among the final nominees for the prestigious award after an impressive year representing both club and country.
The 27-year-old winger made significant contributions during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, scoring three goals and providing one assist in seven appearances for the Super Eagles. Additionally, he achieved a remarkable feat by netting a hat-trick for Atalanta in the UEFA Europa League final.
This season, Lookman has been in stellar form, recording 11 goals and five assists in 18 matches across all competitions.
In a conversation with Foot Africa, Rohr, who previously managed the Super Eagles, praised Lookman’s development, stating, “He has made a lot of progress. His difficult first seasons in England and Germany are now a thing of the past. He has managed to get back up and shine.”
Rohr added, “I followed him a few years ago with the Super Eagles. He went from the shadows to the light. Today, he is a complete player, as effective as an assister as he is as a scorer.”
As anticipation builds for the CAF Awards, Lookman’s exceptional performance has made him a strong contender for the title
