Bumpa Co-founder Adetunji Opayele Passes Away in Tragic Car Accident

The African social commerce space is mourning the loss of Adetunji ‘TeeJay’ Opayele, the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Bumpa, who tragically passed away in a car accident on March 5, 2025.

Opayele, who co-founded Bumpa alongside Kelvin Umechukwu, played a crucial role in the startup’s growth and technological advancements. His contributions helped shape Bumpa into a leading retail automation platform in Nigeria.

Expressing his grief, Umechukwu described Opayele as more than just a business partner, calling him a friend, brother, and a brilliant engineer.

"This is one of the most heartbreaking experiences of my life. Teejay was not just my co-founder—he was family. His impact on Bumpa and all of us who knew him will never be forgotten," Umechukwu stated.
