Biden Faces Backlash from Democrats and Trump Campaign Over Hunter Pardon
U.S. President Joe Biden is facing significant criticism from within his own party following his controversial decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a fellow Democrat, publicly condemned the move, suggesting that Biden prioritized family over national interests. “While as a father I certainly understand President @JoeBiden’s natural desire to help his son by pardoning him, I am disappointed that he put his family ahead of the country,” Polis stated. He warned that this action sets a troubling precedent that future presidents could exploit, potentially damaging Biden's legacy. Polis, who endorsed Biden in the 2020 election and supported him during calls for him to step aside after a poor debate performance, expressed his disappointment in the president’s choice. The Trump campaign reacted strongly to the pardon, accusing Biden and the Democrats of "weaponizing" the justice system. Steven Cheung, the incoming communications director for Trump, stated, “The failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system.” He asserted that reforms are necessary to restore due process for all Americans, a promise he claims Trump will fulfill upon returning to the White House.
