Amaechi Alleges Money Dispute Behind Wike-Fubara Rift, Criticizes Tinubu's Intervention

Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has claimed that the ongoing political conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is primarily about the sharing of state funds.

Speaking in an interview with DW Africa on March 29, Amaechi criticized the federal government’s handling of the crisis, calling the intervention unconstitutional. He argued that the emergency measures imposed on the state amount to military rule, stripping Rivers of democratic governance.

"The fight between the governor and the FCT minister is about money. If not, what exactly is the issue?" Amaechi questioned. "Nigerians have stopped challenging corruption. No one is asking them to publicly explain the real problem."

He further accused President Bola Tinubu of interfering in state affairs to consolidate power ahead of the 2027 elections, alleging that governors who do not align with the presidency are being forced out of office. Amaechi insisted that the Constitution outlines clear processes for a governor’s removal, including death, resignation, or impeachment not executive orders.
