Tinubu Reflects on Tough Journey to Presidency, Thanks Nigerians on 73rd Birthday

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their unwavering support and prayers as he celebrated his 73rd birthday. 

Speaking at a special Iftar at the Presidential Villa on Saturday night, Tinubu reflected on his challenging path to the presidency and reaffirmed his commitment to national progress.

Recounting a pivotal moment during the 2023 election campaign, Tinubu revealed that he briefly considered stepping down after a conversation with a relative. The relative had lamented the economic hardship caused by the naira scarcity, questioning Tinubu’s chances of winning.

"He told me, 'People are suffering because of you. Our uncle, who is wealthy, doesn’t even have N10,000 in cash. What are you running for?’" Tinubu recalled. Despite the doubt, Tinubu insisted he would succeed.

He later discovered that the same relative, whom he had given N50,000 to assist their uncle, had only passed on N10,000. The incident nearly made him reconsider his candidacy. However, with encouragement from former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari and other supporters, he remained steadfast in his pursuit.
