Alaska's Mount Spurr Shows Intensifying Activity, Raising Eruption Concerns

Mount Spurr, a towering 11,000-foot volcano located just 81 miles from Anchorage, Alaska, is showing increasing signs of volcanic unrest.

 According to a recent update from the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO), continuous steam has been observed rising from its summit crater, a development that scientists say is consistent with the volcano’s current period of heightened activity.

The AVO also reported elevated seismic activity in the area, with a swarm of small earthquakes detected beneath the volcano over the past 24 hours. These tremors are believed to result from magma moving closer to the surface, putting pressure on surrounding rock and causing it to crack
