Abia Airport: Deputy Speaker Kalu Praises President Tinubu for Supporting South-East Development

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kalu, has commended President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government for their commitment to developing the South-East, specifically through the initiation of the Abia Airport project, set to begin construction next Tuesday. In a statement issued by Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Kalu highlighted the significance of this project for the region.

Kalu stated that the Abia Airport project exemplifies the Federal Government's dedication to bridging the infrastructure gap in the South-East. He emphasized that the airport will not only stimulate economic activities in Abia State but also enhance connectivity and facilitate trade across the region. His remarks followed Governor Alex Otti's clarification during a recent media briefing, confirming that the airport is a federal initiative, with the state government providing necessary support.

The Deputy Speaker, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, played a pivotal role in facilitating the project at the federal level. He shared the concept with Governor Otti, who expressed interest in upgrading the initial idea of an airstrip to a full-fledged airport. Kalu revealed that he has been invited to the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday but will be unable to attend due to his commitment to the presentation of the 2025 national budget scheduled for the same day.

Despite his absence, Kalu assured Governor Otti that he remains committed to attracting people-oriented projects for Abia. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his focus on developing the South-East, particularly with the approval of the airport construction and the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
