A jailbreak in Kogi State has led to the escape of 12 inmates, raising serious security concerns. Authorities have confirmed that one fugitive has been re-arrested, while efforts are ongoing to recapture the others.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, described the incident as “unfortunate” and questioned how the escape occurred without structural damage to the facility. He suggested possible internal sabotage and assured the public that a full investigation is underway.

In response, Governor Usman Ododo has directed security agencies to strengthen measures and prevent future breaches. He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The government warned that anyone caught harboring an escaped inmate would face legal consequences.

“There’s no cause for panic,” Fanwo stated. “We are prioritizing the safety of lives and property.”
