Wike Defends Abuja Demolition Exercise, Says FCT Cannot Shoulder Everyone’s Burden

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has maintained that the ongoing demolition of shanties in Abuja is necessary to curb lawlessness and restore order.

Speaking on the issue, Wike insisted that the FCT administration cannot be held responsible for accommodating everyone who migrates to Abuja.

“People leave their states and flood into the FCT. Because they are struggling financially, does that mean I should take on their responsibilities? Many abandon their homes and set up structures all over Abuja. It is not sustainable for the FCT government to provide shelter for everyone,” he said.
