U.S. Trade Representative Criticizes Nigeria’s Import Ban, Calls for Policy Review

The United States Trade Representative (USTR) has condemned Nigeria's recent import ban on 25 product categories, arguing that the measure harms American exporters and restricts market access for U.S. businesses.

In a new report, the USTR highlighted Nigeria's trade restrictions as one of the top ten unfair practices currently impacting U.S. businesses worldwide. The report’s release comes amid escalating global trade tensions, especially after the U.S. imposed tariffs on several countries.

The USTR pointed out that Nigeria’s import ban on key items, including beef, pork, poultry, fruit juices, medicaments, and alcoholic spirits, severely limits American export opportunities. These restrictions, according to the agency, hinder free trade and disrupt the balance of commercial relations between the two nations.
