UK Labour Government Plans Visa Restrictions for "High-Risk" Countries Amid Immigration Concerns

The UK's Labour government is considering stricter visa policies for nationals from countries perceived to be higher risks for overstaying or seeking asylum. 

According to reports from The Times, and confirmed by a government official on condition of anonymity, this move could affect work and study visa applications from countries like Pakistan, Nigeria, and Sri Lanka.

This potential policy shift is set to be outlined in a forthcoming report aimed at curbing net migration, which reached 728,000 last year. 

The Home Office indicated it is working on developing better intelligence tools to detect visa applicants who may pose a higher risk of abusing the system by overstaying or claiming asylum after arriving.
