Tragic Plane Crash in South Korea Leaves Dozens Feared Dead

A devastating incident occurred on Sunday when a passenger jet crash-landed at Muan County Airport in southwestern South Korea, resulting in at least 85 fatalities, according to fire officials.

The Jeju Air flight 7C 2216, which had departed from Bangkok, was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members. The aircraft experienced a malfunction with its landing gear, leading to a catastrophic crash around 9 a.m. local time (7 p.m. ET Saturday). Eyewitness footage captured the Boeing 737-800 sliding down the runway on its belly, crashing into an embankment, and erupting into flames.

Firefighters responded swiftly, using water cannons to extinguish the fire and manage the wreckage, which was left scattered across the runway. The victims included 39 men and 46 women, as reported by the South Jeolla Fire Service.
