Nigerian-Canadian Man Charged for $600K Online Romance Scam

Chimezie Nwabueze, a 28-year-old man from Toronto, has been charged in connection with a romance scam that defrauded two victims of over $600,000. 

The scam, which took place between June 2021 and July 2023, involved Nwabueze posing as an oil rig owner in the Middle East. He allegedly met the victims on a dating platform and convinced them to send large sums of money, promising to repay them and eventually meet in person.
