Tanzania’s electoral body has confirmed President Samia Suluhu Hassan and her running mate Emmanuel Nchimbi as candidates in the October 29 polls, while ruling out several prominent challengers.

 Earlier in April, the commission disqualified the presidential candidate of CHADEMA, the country’s main opposition party, over refusal to sign the electoral code of conduct during calls for reforms. 

In addition, nomination papers from Luhaga Mpina of ACTWazalendo, Tanzania’s second largest opposition group, were rejected, further narrowing the field for the opposition.
