Sanwo-Olu Launches IBILE Oil Compressed Natural Gas Initiative
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to expanding the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative during a recent training event organized by IBILE Oil & Gas Corporation (IOGC). The event took place at the Lagos Bus Service Limited Workshop in Yaba on Friday.
Speaking through Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the vision of a Lagos powered by clean energy in its transportation systems and industries, contributing to job creation while prioritizing environmental stewardship. He described the adoption of CNG as not only an energy solution but also a commitment to cleaner, safer, and more affordable energy systems that benefit the populace and the environment.
Highlighting the benefits of CNG, the Governor pointed out that it significantly reduces carbon emissions, improves air quality, and offers a cost-effective transportation alternative, alleviating financial burdens on citizens while fostering local enterprise development.
In her welcome address, the Managing Director of IBILE Oil and Gas, Ms. Doyin Akinyanju, noted that the initiative represents a significant milestone towards a sustainable future for Lagos. She explained that the program focuses on "Training Trainers" to enhance manpower development for CNG vehicle conversions, facilitating a smooth transition to cleaner energy.
Akinyanju announced that the initiative includes plans to establish four CNG refueling stations in Lagos by March 2025, with locations at LAMATA Ojota and Ajah terminals, LAWMA Ijora Depot, and Yaba. She also mentioned plans for an additional 11 CNG refueling stations to be delivered between Q3 2025 and Q1 2026.
