Public Questions FG's Electricity Payment Claims Amid Unpaid Bill Controversy

Nigerians on social media have criticized the Federal Government's assertion that it pays N47 billion annually for electricity, calling the claim questionable. 

This backlash comes in light of a 2024 notice issued by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), which revealed that the presidential villa alone owed N923.87 million in unpaid electricity bills. 

The AEDC had also threatened to disconnect power supply to the villa and 86 other government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) unless they settled a combined debt of N47.1 billion within 10 days.
