President Tinubu Restructures Leadership at Federal Universities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed the Vice Chancellors of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the University of Abuja (now renamed Yakubu Gowon University) as part of a major leadership overhaul in federal universities. 

In an announcement made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the changes are effective immediately. The statement detailed that the entire governing council of Yakubu Gowon University has been dissolved, and Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi has been relieved of her duties as Vice-Chancellor. 

She is succeeded by Professor Lar Patricia Manko, who will serve as Acting Vice-Chancellor for six months but will not be eligible for the permanent position.

At UNN, President Tinubu removed Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu from his role as Acting Vice-Chancellor before the end of his term on February 14. Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam has been appointed as his six-month successor, also ineligible for the permanent role.
