Pope Francis’ Funeral Scheduled for Saturday
Pope Francis’ funeral has been set for Saturday at 10 a.m. local time in St. Peter's Square, and will be led by the dean of the College of Cardinals.
The Cardinals convened at the Vatican to finalize the details for the funeral and burial, as well as to prepare for the upcoming papal conclave to elect his successor.
In the wake of the Pope’s passing, both world leaders and ordinary Catholics continue to mourn.
The public viewing of Pope Francis will begin on Wednesday at St. Peter’s Basilica, following a procession of his casket from the Vatican hotel where he resided. In his final will, Pope Francis expressed his wish to be buried at the St. Mary Major Basilica, located outside the Vatican, which holds special significance to him as it is home to his beloved icon of the Virgin Mary.
