Police Arrest Popular Edo TikToker for Spreading False Information
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 38-year-old TikToker Destiny Ekhorutomuen for allegedly disseminating misleading and provocative content on social media. The arrest, made by the National Cyber Crime Centre in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area, Edo State, is part of ongoing efforts to combat misinformation that could harm the reputation of the police and incite public unrest.
According to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, Ekhorutomuen was taken into custody on December 8, 2024, for creating multiple social media accounts aimed at spreading false and inciting material against the Nigeria Police.
ACP Adejobi emphasized the importance of responsible information sharing and urged citizens to be cautious in their use of social media. “The peace and unity of the nation depend on it,” he stated, underscoring the potential consequences of spreading misinformation
