PDP Rejects State of Emergency in Rivers State, Calls Tinubu’s Action Unconstitutional
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly rejected the State of Emergency imposed on Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as unconstitutional and an attack on democracy.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the PDP accused Tinubu of overstepping his constitutional powers by suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and appointing a sole administrator to govern the state.
"The PDP outrightly rejects this attempt by the President to override the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and undermine the votes and will of the people of Rivers State," the statement read.
The party argued that Tinubu’s decision to replace an elected governor with Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) is an undemocratic move that disregards the rule of law.
PDP further called on Nigerians and the international community to resist what it termed an "unconstitutional power grab" and vowed to challenge the action through all legal means
