NNPC Ltd Reaffirms Progress on Port Harcourt Refinery and Addresses Misleading Claims

The Board and Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) express their gratitude to Nigerians for their support following the successful restart of the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refinery. This milestone marks a crucial advancement after years of operational difficulties and underperformance.

NNPC Ltd acknowledges recent unfounded claims suggesting that the refinery is not producing output. For clarity, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to increase to 90%. The refinery's daily outputs include 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol) as Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha), 900,000 liters of Kerosene, 1.5 million liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO or Diesel), 2.1 million liters of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO), and additional volumes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The refinery utilizes crack C5, a blending component sourced from Indorama Petrochemicals, to produce gasoline that meets required specifications. Blending is a standard global practice in refining, as no single unit can produce gasoline that fully complies with national standards without such processes.

Additionally, substantial progress has been made on the new Port Harcourt Refinery, which is set to begin operations soon without prior announcements. NNPC Ltd urges Nigerians to recognize the remarkable achievements under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and to support ongoing efforts to enhance the nation's energy sector. Malicious attacks on clear progress only serve to undermine the significant strides made by NNPC Ltd and the country as a whole.
