Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Temporarily Closed After Cargo Aircraft Incident

Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport has been temporarily shut down following an incident involving an Allied Air Cargo aircraft, registration number 5N-JRT, which skidded off Runway 22. The event occurred at 10:05 AM today, with five people on board the aircraft.

Obiageri Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated and reported no injuries. 

The Airport Emergency Response Team is currently on-site, along with accident investigators, working to clear the runway. Orah indicated that operations are expected to resume as soon as the area is safe for use.

She expressed gratitude to the aviation community and the public for their understanding and patience during this time and urged against speculation until the preliminary report from the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is released.

As a precaution, the evacuees have been taken to the FAAN clinic for medical checks.
