Nigerian Police Link Missing Women to Hookup Culture and Ritual Killings
The Nigerian Police Force has reported a disturbing connection between the rising cases of missing young women and girls and the prevalent hookup culture in the country. SP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Command, made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television's Morning Brief on December 4, 2024. Odutola highlighted that young women aged 20 to 32 are particularly vulnerable, noting that many young people, especially males, mistakenly believe that ritual killings can lead to wealth. "This particular menace is very serious, and I would like a lot of young people to understand the danger in the hookup culture," she stated. She revealed that reports indicate that at least ten young girls and women go missing daily, and investigations show that these disappearances are often linked to hookup platforms. Many victims are lured to unknown locations by strangers, where they fall prey to ritualistic practices. Odutola emphasized that while the issue of missing girls and ritual killings is not new, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police has been working diligently to address and mitigate these incidents
