Nigeria Welcomes King's Baton Relay Ahead of 2026 Commonwealth Games, Launches Clean Oceans Campaign

Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy, joined the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in officially receiving the King’s Baton Relay in Abuja.

The symbolic handover marks the countdown to the 2026 Commonwealth Games and highlights Nigeria’s active role in promoting global sporting unity.
 This year’s event also introduced the "Commonwealth Clean Oceans Plastics Campaign," a joint effort by the Commonwealth Sport Movement, the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS), and Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC).
