Nationwide Protests Erupt Over Trump’s Immigration Policies Amid Crackdown in Los Angeles
Demonstrations against former President Donald Trump’s strict immigration measures continued to spread across the United States on Wednesday, despite a heavy handed response from authorities in Los Angeles and Trump’s warnings of using “heavy force” to suppress unrest.
Los Angeles, where protests initially broke out last Friday, saw heightened police presence around key government areas. A citywide curfew was enforced overnight, leading to the arrest of approximately 25 individuals who defied orders to vacate the downtown zone. Many business owners preemptively boarded up their shops in anticipation of possible damage.
Despite the show of force, demonstrators remained vocal. “Everything’s actually calm right here at the heart of it all,” said Lynn Sturgis, a 66-year-old retired teacher participating in the protest. “Our city isn’t burning down like our terrible leader wants you to believe.”
