Lagos State House of Assembly Briefs GAC on Leadership Change

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have formally briefed the Governance Advisory Committee (GAC) regarding a significant change in leadership within the House.

The meeting, which took place at Lagos House, Marina, was attended by the governor, deputy governor, and key lawmakers.

Sources present at the meeting reported that several lawmakers shared their experiences under the leadership of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed by his colleagues on Monday.

One lawmaker recounted a harrowing experience, revealing that he nearly committed suicide due to the maltreatment he faced while serving under Obasa.

This lawmaker had contested against Obasa for the position of Speaker in the 10th Assembly.

He stated,

“For daring to contest the seat of Speaker against Obasa, I nearly committed suicide due to the way I was treated. None of my colleagues in the House dared to communicate or relate with me during the reign of Obasa; nobody greeted me or responded to my greetings. I was ostracized. If not for the people that I am representing, I would have run away from the House.”

In light of the new leadership, the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, previously the deputy speaker, addressed journalists following the meeting.
