Lagos State Government Reopens Oko-Oba Abattoir After Sanitation Standards Are Met
The Lagos State Government has ordered the immediate reopening of the Oko-Oba Abattoir following the operators’ compliance with sanitation and hygiene requirements.
Authorities confirmed that the operators have now met the minimum health and safety standards necessary for abattoir operations, which were previously disregarded and led to the facility's closure.
As part of the conditions for reopening, officials from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources will carry out monthly inspections to ensure continuous adherence to health regulations.
The government has also cautioned operators to maintain proper sanitary practices, manage waste responsibly, and ensure the hygienic handling of animal products to prevent a recurrence of the issues that led to the initial shutdown.
