Lagos Court Sentences Man to Two Years in Prison for Facebook Romance Scam

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced one Aleburu Elvis to two years behind bars for engaging in internet fraud. Justice D.E. Osiagor delivered the ruling on, July 17, 2025, after Elvis pleaded guilty to a one count charge of cybercrime.

Elvis was apprehended by EFCC operatives in the Abule Egba area of Lagos, following credible intelligence about a group involved in online scams. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, brought the charge against him
