Kenneth Okonkwo Demands Protection for Dele Farotimi Amidst Defamation Case
Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi remains in custody over a defamation case against legal luminary Afe Babalola. In response to his ongoing detention, actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has issued a stern warning that Farotimi's safety must be ensured while he is in prison.
In a post on his Instagram page, Okonkwo emphasized the importance of protecting Farotimi, stating, “NOTHING SHOULD HAPPEN TO DELE FAROTIMI IN PRISON. Now that Dele Farotimi is sticking to his guns on the purported defamation matter, his life must be protected at all costs.” He expressed concern over the possibility of Farotimi suffering health issues while incarcerated, asserting, “Nobody should come and tell us he had a cardiac arrest or something happened to him after a brief illness. Dele Farotimi was hale and hearty when he was unjustly arrested.”
Okonkwo urged that Farotimi should be healthier upon his release, criticizing the government for holding him unjustly. He speculated that corrupt elites might attempt to resolve the matter through intimidation if Farotimi continues to resist. “The authorities must be aware that the whole world is watching,” he warned, calling for adherence to legal processes without resorting to any underhanded tactics. “Let the law be allowed to run its full course,” he concluded.
