Kate Middleton vs. Meghan Markle: Contrasting Approaches to Royal Life
On the surface, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle share many similarities. Both women came from upper-middle-class backgrounds, far removed from the traditional aristocratic circles typically associated with the British Royal Family. Unlike royal brides like Princess Diana, who had longstanding ties to the aristocracy, both Kate and Meghan were raised in private schools and came from families that aspired to greater social standing.
However, their journey into the Royal Family came with stark contrasts. Marrying into one of the world’s most famous families was undoubtedly a culture shock for both women, making them outsiders in an institution that can seem stuck in the past.
Despite their similarities, former palace staff have shared insights into their differing approaches to royal life. One former staff member told royal author Tom Quinn, “Kate is Meghan Markle without the messianic complex,” suggesting Kate’s more measured approach to her royal duties.
