IGP Egbetokun Pulls Police Mobile Force Off VIP Duties, Launches Major Reforms

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the immediate withdrawal of Police Mobile Force (PMF) operatives from escorting VIPs and private individuals nationwide.

Speaking at a strategic meeting with PMF squadron commanders in Abuja, the IGP emphasized the need to return the elite unit to its primary function tactical response to emergencies, unrest, and violent threats.

Egbetokun criticized the growing trend of assigning PMF officers to non-core security duties like personal escorts, calling it a misuse that compromises the unit’s effectiveness. “PMF was not created to serve as status symbols for individuals,” he stressed.
