Hungary Amends Constitution to Ban LGBTQ+ Public Events
Hungary’s parliament has approved a controversial constitutional amendment that grants the government power to ban public gatherings organized by LGBTQ+ communities, including events like the annual Budapest Pride.
The amendment was passed on Monday with a two-thirds majority 140 votes in favor and 21 against mostly along party lines.
It was championed by the ruling Fidesz-KDNP alliance led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, known for his conservative and populist policies.
