“FOR FATHERS, YOU ARE DISGUSTING” — DINEO RANAKA CALLS OUT MACG & SOL PHENDUKA OVER JOKES ABOUT MISSING RUNNER
FOR FATHERS, YOU ARE DISGUSTING” — DINEO RANAKA CALLS OUT MACG & SOL PHENDUKA OVER JOKES ABOUT MISSING RUNNER
South African radio personality Dineo Ranaka has criticised her former colleagues MacG and Sol Phenduka over remarks they allegedly made about the disappearance of runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who was later found dead.
The controversy began after a clip from Podcast and Chill resurfaced. The episode was recorded while Moselakgomo was still missing, with the hosts making jokes about her disappearance and running.
Phenduka later apologised, describing his comments as an “unfortunate pun” and acknowledging that making jokes about a missing person’s situation was distasteful.
Reacting to the controversy, Ranaka strongly condemned the remarks, particularly criticising the fact that both men are fathers.
“She’s still dead. If the apologising can resuscitate her from the death, then let’s take the apology.”
Ranaka argued that an apology cannot undo the trauma experienced by victims of violence or bring back those who have died. She also accused media platforms of turning serious issues involving rape, violence and death into entertainment for views and ratings.
“We are tired of ratings. We are tired of views. We are tired of numbers that don’t matter.”
She called for greater responsibility from media personalities when discussing sensitive cases and urged people to think carefully before making jokes about tragedies.
Do you think there should be stronger accountability when public figures joke about cases involving missing or deceased people
