FG Bans Oil Pipeline Imports to Boost Local Production

The Federal Government has officially banned the importation of oil pipelines in a move to strengthen domestic manufacturing and boost local content in the oil and gas sector.

Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), announced the new policy during the commissioning of Monarch Alloys' pipeline coating facility in Ikorodu, Lagos.

Lokpobiri directed the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to stop issuing waivers that allow the importation of pipelines.

"We are putting an end to the era of dumping foreign pipes in Nigeria," the minister declared. "Purchasing locally means keeping jobs and wealth within our economy.
