Family Accuses LUTH of Withholding Brother’s Body
A grieving family has accused the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) of detaining the body of their late brother until a payment of ₦1.9 million is made.
According to a relative, the deceased was initially admitted to LUTH from Aisha Hospital while still conscious and speaking, scheduled for brain tumor surgery.
However, the hospital reportedly moved him to the ICU, claiming he was too weak for surgery. The family alleges they were subsequently asked to provide millions of naira, medications, milk, and other supplies daily.
Tragically, the patient slipped into a coma the following day and remained unresponsive for five days.
Though he briefly regained consciousness, he was unable to speak and sadly passed away after 15 days in intensive care. The family now says LUTH is refusing to release his body unless they settle the outstanding bill.
