Complainant in Multi-Million-Naira Land Fraud Case Dies
Mrs. Uju Ezeobi, a key complainant in a high-profile multi-million-naira land fraud case, has allegedly died while in police custody at Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, Anambra State.
Her death comes just hours after her legal team, led by Okolo Ejike Esq., petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over alleged mistreatment by officers handling the case.
The land fraud case dates back to 2021 when Nkiruka Duru, president of the United Business Women Association, allegedly defrauded investors of over N200 million by selling non-existent land in Achala. Ezeobi, who facilitated some of the sales, later filed a petition against Duru when the promised lands were not delivered.
The matter was initially under investigation by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) in Abuja, leading to formal charges against Duru. However, following a police reshuffle, the case was allegedly transferred to Zone 13, where Duru was accused of using her influence to manipulate the investigation
