Emir of Zazzau Advises Men to Stick to One Wife Amid Economic Hardship
The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, has urged men who are not financially stable to stick to one wife to ensure they can properly provide for their families.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 30th edition of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) annual Ramadan lecture, the monarch expressed concern over how polygamy is tearing families apart due to men failing in their responsibilities as providers.
The Emir emphasized that while Islam permits men to marry more than one wife, it does not mean every man is financially capable of taking care of multiple households. He cited an example of 192 families living within the palace, where some men have over 50 children, questioning how they can adequately cater to them.
He also called for a curriculum review in Islamiyya schools to include Islamic rights for girls, believing this would help reshape societal values and build better communities.
