EFCC Chairman: ‘Yahoo Boys’ Now Involved in Ritual Killings, Kidnapping, and Banditry

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has raised alarm over the growing criminal activities of internet fraudsters, popularly known as ‘Yahoo boys’, stating that many have now expanded into ritual killings, kidnapping, and banditry.

Speaking on the EFCC’s crackdown on cybercrime, Olukoyede defended the agency’s aggressive approach despite public criticism.

According to Olukoyede, the EFCC handled over 11,000 petitions in 2024, investigated nearly 9,000 cases, and successfully prosecuted about 5,000 suspects, all despite limited manpower.

"Some people criticise us for going after Yahoo boys, but they don’t understand the severity of the crime. It is no longer just about scamming people. They are now into kidnapping, banditry, and ritual killings.
