Donald Trump has come under fire following remarks at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, where he appeared to suggest that Iran could “take out” major U.S. cities such as Los Angeles or San Diego.
While defending the ongoing war with Iran, Trump described the economic impact as a “small price to pay” for keeping America and the world safe. He then referenced the possibility of Iran taking out a city, naming Los Angeles and San Diego.
The comments quickly triggered backlash from California leaders, who condemned the remarks and questioned whether American cities should ever be described in such terms.
The White House later argued that Trump was referring to the threat those cities could face if Iran were allowed to develop nuclear weapons rather than calling for an attack on them.
