Dangote Covering Transport and Storage Costs Is a Win for Nigerians — Economist Kevin Emmanuel
Economist Kevin Emmanuel has commended the Dangote Group’s decision to shoulder the transportation and storage costs of petrol, calling it a significant move that favors ordinary Nigerians.
He explained that the true profits in Nigeria’s petroleum marketing sector don't lie in the small margins of ₦5 to ₦15 per litre, but in deeper structural loopholes such as importing off-spec products, manipulating price distortions, and inflating bridging claims.
“In some states, the difference between depot and pump prices can be as high as ₦400,” Emmanuel said, highlighting the inefficiencies and manipulation in the current distribution system.
