Church of Nigeria Cuts Ties with Church in Wales Over Appointment of Lesbian Archbishop
The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has severed relations with the Church in Wales following the election of Bishop Cherry Vann, an openly lesbian cleric, as the 15th Archbishop of Wales.
Originally from Leicestershire, Vann became Bishop of Monmouth in 2020 and was first ordained as a deacon in 1989.
She was among the earliest women to be ordained as priests in the Church of England in 1994 and later served as Archdeacon of Rochdale in the Diocese of Manchester for more than a decade.
