Bill to Remove Immunity for Vice President and Governors Passes Second Reading in House of Reps

A bill seeking to remove constitutional immunity for the Vice President, Governors, and their Deputies has passed its second reading in the House of Representatives. The proposed amendment aims to enhance accountability, curb corruption, and eliminate impunity among top government officials.

This bill is part of a broader constitutional review process currently being undertaken by the National Assembly. On Wednesday, 42 amendment bills advanced, following the approval of 39 similar bills the previous day. In total, 81 constitutional amendments are under consideration.

Among the other key proposals is a bill to separate the Office of the Attorney-General from the Minister of Justice at both federal and state levels
