Barack Obama has reportedly named Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti the greatest Afrobeats artiste of all time, saying he’s grateful to be alive to witness Fela receiving a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award 

According to Obama, Fela Kuti wasn’t just a Nigerian icon but one of Africa’s greatest musical geniuses, deserving of a permanent place as a Hall of Famer for pioneering Afrobeats and introducing African sound, culture, and truth to the world 

He praised Fela for using music as more than entertainment calling it a weapon of activism, a voice for the oppressed, and a fearless fight against injustice and bad governance
