Atiku Abubakar Condemns Detention of VeryDarkMan, Accuses Tinubu Govt of Repression
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized the arrest and continued detention of social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement, Atiku described VDM's detention without formal charges as a “blatant abuse of power” and a violation of his constitutional rights, accusing the Tinubu-led administration of using state power to silence dissent.
He called the action a “chilling reminder of growing authoritarianism”, asserting that the government is systematically targeting critics while protecting political allies accused of corruption.
“This regime's assault on fundamental freedoms must not define our democracy,” Atiku warned, urging Nigerians to resist what he described as a disgraceful crackdown on opposition voices and civil liberties
