Abia Adopts Federal Pay Structure for Health Workers

Abia State has officially approved a new salary structure for its health workers, aligning with the federal pay scale for medical professionals. Known as the Abia State Health Workers Salary Scale (ASHWOSS), the policy will take effect from May 1, 2025, and covers various health professions including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, optometrists, medical lab scientists, and radiographers.

This landmark move marks a significant shift for the state’s healthcare system, which has long been burdened by unpaid wages, inadequate infrastructure, and a shortage of trained personnel.
