10% Cap on Tenancy and Commission Fees

The Lagos State Government has firmly restated that landlords and real estate agents must not charge more than 10% of the annual rent as fees for tenancy agreements or commissions.

At the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja, Ms. Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Housing, highlighted that any charge exceeding this legal limit violates the Lagos State Tenancy Law.

She expressed serious concern over numerous reports of landlords and agents demanding exorbitant fees, labeling such practices as exploitative and unacceptable.
