Vice President Shettima Leads Governors in New Year Homage to President Tinubu

On Wednesday in Lagos, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of state governors in driving Nigeria's development and prosperity. 

He addressed the gathering of governors, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighting that effective leadership at the subnational level is key to achieving food security, fostering economic growth, and ensuring rapid national progress.

"You are the most important link to Nigeria's prosperity and development," Tinubu stated, noting that the Federal Government only accounts for about 30 to 35 percent of the allocated revenue, with the remainder managed by the states. He stressed the importance of the agricultural value chain, asserting, "You own the land, and the job is in your hands."

The President called for unity and collaboration among the leaders, declaring, "We will not fight within us. I will drive the change. You control your local governments. You can restore hope by effectively fulfilling what the people expect at the grassroots level."

Addressing rumors of disagreements regarding local government autonomy, Tinubu clarified, "No. Just drive development at the local government. Nobody wants to take them away from you, but we need collaboration. Let's do it together and ensure Nigeria is better off for it."

He urged governors to work harder, grow more, and focus on improving the national currency's situation. "Nigeria will see prosperity, but it requires consistent effort from all of us," he affirmed.

Expressing confidence in the nation's potential, Tinubu added, "There is no state we cannot visit and be proud of its development. Together, we will build a nation we are all proud of."

The President also revealed plans to visit Enugu State on January 4, as part of his itinerary to engage with various states across the federation.
