Shallipopi Parts Ways with Dapper Music, Citing Breach of Trust

After nearly three years of collaboration, Nigerian singer Shallipopi has announced his split from Dapper Music, the label owned by Chef Hilda Baci’s fiancé. In an emotional Instagram post on December 11, 2024, Shallipopi cited a breach of trust and lack of transparency as the primary reasons for his decision.

The announcement confirms earlier reports about the split, following Shallipopi’s recent choice to unfollow Dapper Music founder and CEO, Damilola Akinwunmi, on Instagram.

In his statement, the Benin-born rapper expressed that the decision was one of the hardest he has ever made, emphasizing his commitment to all creatives who dedicate themselves to their craft.

“I come to you today with a heavy heart but an unshakable determination,” he wrote. “Today, I’m officially ending my agreements with Dapper Music and Dapper Digital. This wasn’t a choice I made lightly, but it’s a step I had to take after my trust was broken, my finances mishandled, and my rights as an artist were disregarded.”

Shallipopi framed the decision as a stand for all artists facing similar challenges, advocating for fairness, integrity, and respect in the creative industry. “This is bigger than just me. It’s about every artist and creator who pours their soul into their work, only to face betrayal and exploitation from people who should be looking out for them,” he added.
