President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, including its Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mele Kyari, and the Board Chairman, Pius Akinyelure. The announcement, made on April 2, 2025, signals a major restructuring aimed at improving NNPC's operational efficiency, restoring investor confidence, and enhancing the company’s commercial viability.
In a statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, it was revealed that President Tinubu, exercising his authority under Section 59(2) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, reconstituted the board of NNPC.
The president appointed Bayo Ojulari as the new Group CEO, succeeding Mele Kyari. Additionally, Ahmadu Musa Kida has been named the new non-executive chairman of NNPC, and Adedapo Segun has been confirmed as the company’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
