Pope Leo XIV Extends Invitation to President Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to visit Rome this Saturday after receiving a formal invitation from Pope Leo XIV to attend his papal inauguration on Sunday, May 18.
The ceremony, held at St. Peter’s Square, will officially mark the start of Pope Leo XIV’s tenure as the 267th Bishop of Rome, following his election 27 days after Pope Francis’ passing.
In a letter conveyed by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Pope highlighted the significance of President Tinubu’s attendance, referencing ongoing global conflicts and his own ties to Nigeria from his service in the Apostolic Nunciature in Lagos in the 1980s
